This is my baby sisters sophomore year of college and she just moved into her first apartment so she was so excited to furnish it. She did not want to spend a lot of money because she knows this is just furniture for college, but she wanted it to still be cute and work well with the space! So my mom and her picked up this table from goodwill FOR 9 DOLLARS & these chairs for 25$. That is a steal for good pieces of wood furniture, everything was in great shape! All it needed was a little touch up to make it cuter & more airy so the room look more spacious instead of being crowded with dark furniture.
So the first thing we did was give it a light sanding to get the clear coat off and see more of the natural wood underneath. I also used a liquid sander to get in the crevices. Then we cleaned the table off of any dust and started the first coat of paint

So this is the table after about 3 coats of the white paint. First you start off by doing one light coat of paint. You want to be sure not to over-saturate your brush because it will leave more brush marks and more drip marks. You also want to be sure to let each coat dry in before the next. I used a roller for the big surface areas and a brush for the smaller areas and the cracks. After the table completely dries… I like to use a light grit sander like 220 and gentle smooth out the paint then I move to an 80 grit sander (I use a block manual sander) then I start sanding where I want the distressed marks. This is usually along the edges and along the wood grain. After I am done with this step I clean off the dust again and apply a clear coat to seal it and prevent any damage. For this table we used the matte clear coat because I did not want a glossy look, but normally I would do a clear gloss on the top so it is easier to clean.
This is the before of the chairs…

We lightly sanded them with a sanding block & gave them a good wipe down and the spray painted them a matte black…

Super simple and they turned out beautiful!

This is the before and after!

This is the final look inside their apartment! I love how this one turned out.
